The Sprint Cup will visit the Lone Star State for the first of two races in 2018 for the Duck Commander 500 (previously NRA 500, Samsung Mobile 500 and Samsung 500).
They say that everything is bigger in Texas, and that’s certainly true when it comes to the Texas Motor Speedway and the Duck Commander 500 (formerly NRA 500, Samsung Mobile 500 and Samsung 500). Located in the Dallas-Ft. Worth Metroplex, Texas Motor Speedway, or just TMS, is an enormous 1.5-mile race track.
NRA 500 will likely to show the same cast of characters at the front of the pack: Jimmie Johnson, Tony Stewart, Jeff Gordon, Matt Kenseth, Kyle Busch, and Jeff Burton. Which star of NASCAR will get to wear the cowboy hat and fire the six-shooters in Victory Lane?
Even though this race has only been around since ’97, it has proven to be one of the biggest and best stops on the NASCAR calendar. There has only been one repeat winner in this race (Jeff Burton) and the big name stars of NASCAR have all taken turns winning in Texas, including Carl Edwards, Jeff Gordon, Denny Hamlin and Dale Earnhardt Jr.
Texas Motor Speedway
The Texas Motor Speedway in Fort Worth, Texas is dubbed ( The Great American Speedway ) and is the 2nd largest sports facility in America. Construction on this 1.5 mile, intermediate, quad oval track began in 1995. Basically, it has been referred to as an intermediate track, or a cookie cutter. Texas Motor Speedway was once considered the fastest non-restrictor plate track on the NASCAR circuit, with qualifying speeds in excess of 192 mph and corner entry speeds over 200 mph. However, as the tracks' respective racing surfaces continue to wear, qualifying speeds at Atlanta have become consistently faster.
Texas has a layout very similar to Atlanta Motor Speedway and Lowe's Motor Speedway (formerly Charlotte Motor Speedway). The track measures 1.5 miles around and is banked 24 degrees in the turns, and is of the quad-oval design, where the front straightaway juts outward slightly.Texas Motor Speedway was once considered the fastest non-restrictor plate track on the NASCAR circuit, with qualifying speeds in excess of 192 mph and corner entry speeds over 200 mph.
